Last night was a very exciting time. Vote counts rolled in and at the end of the evening Barack Obama was declared the winner in the presidential election. Most people in the United States were jubilant, a large minority were not, as their candidate, John McCain was defeated.
All over the world people were rejoicing at the news of Obama's election. And all of us can agree that this was an historic election as the first non-Caucasian was elected to serve as President.
When I woke up this morning I realized that it was business as usual. Politicians doing their thing.
I am also reminded that our primary calling as followers of Jesus is to build the kingdom of God and that transcends national politics and borders. Neither the USA nor any nation of this world will ever be more than a kingdom of this world.
It is the goal and focus of Christians to work toward God's kingdom coming and will being done on earth as it is heaven and that will be accomplished through the Church.
