OK, the vacation blogging didn't amount to much, but it was great to get away for a while. For a little over two weeks I didn't read a newspaper or watch a television, I listened to some music on the radio but was essentially ignorant of all the major goings on in the world. I did log on to the computer but only to blog and check personal email, I didn't read Presbyweb, sports pages, newspaper articles or anything else. I was disconnected.
Yet in the midst of this disconnection I felt strangely connected to everything going on around me. I was more connected to my family. I was more aware of my surroundings, I had a greater sense of the presence of God in my life. Without all the distractions that cry out for my attention I was able to be fully present in the moment, fully attentive to those I was with at the time.
Sometimes the best way to connect is simply to disconnect from everything else.
